Why Myanmar?
Myanmar is at take-off stage
Myanmar is a country with enormous potential, having been cut-off from most of the world for over 50 years. Since the elections in 2011, the Government has introduced a variety of measures directed at reversing this isolation, through far-reaching political and economic reforms. These have significantly relaxed tensions between Mayanmar and western economies in particular, resulting in resumed government-to-government contacts and an expectation that economic sanctions may soon be lifted.
The reforms have seen the Myanmar Government moving to dismantle the strongly anti-competitive elements of the domestic business environment and encourage foreign investment, with the aim of increasing economic efficiency and driving economic growth. Reform of the banking system is also well under way.
Arguably, government policy has now established a base for extensive social and economic renewal in Myanmar, allowing the country to make the leap into the 21 st century and to reap the benefits of its strategic location and significant human and natural resources. There is immense potential for rewarding participation by non-residents.
